Shipsorder for S/Y Azad
Expectations and rules

First of all We would like to welcome you aboard S/Y Azad and we hope you will get a wonderful sailingexperience together with us. S/Y Azad is 42 ft. long, but is only equipped with 2 doublecabins, and the possibility of making 1 bunk in the saloon - this means we normally only include 2 max 3 crewmembers beside ourself.

We are going to be together in very limited space and therefore we have to take each other into account. To facilitate this we have written the rules for participation and stay on S/Y Azad. Before you can sign up, you must have read and accepted the ship's order - which is the practical rules on how to behave, what we expect of you and what to expect from us and not least what it costs to participate.

To run and keep a sailboat is expensive- especially when it's in use because of that we have to ask everyone to contribute if they want to sail with us. When sailing, there are 2 contributions to be paid - Crew contributions and Shared contributions. All contributions are paid per person and is indisputable - details of content and contribution sizes is explaned in detail further down in the text

If you, in anticipation, do not agree to pay the approx. 40-50 Euro a day which includes the cabin with its own toilet and bath, food and water, free seaview, natureexperiences and much more, then, unfortunately, you will not be able to go sailing with us - instead you can press the button to the right to view other opportunities to go sailing. If on the other hand, you find it's quite fair that you pay a bit, then please continue reading.

Crew / guest

Anyone who chooses to sail on Azad is to name as crew regardless of the duration and purpose of the trip. It is important to point out that there is no question of rent or charter, but only about participation in a part-trip cruise. Everything on Azad is worn and must be regularly replaced and maintained, and therefore, each participant pays a contribution (crew contribution) used exclusively for the operation of the ship and which covers current and future running costs for maintenance, safety, shiprepair and equipment, and procurement of new equipment. In addition, each participant pays a contribution to the shared contributions that covers joint expenses for food, water, diesel, gasoline for inflatables, port fees, collection fees, cruising permits etc. Crew contributions and shared contributions to the fellowship are described in more detail below - PLEASE READ !

Crew contribution:
  • A hammock aboard Azad costs a crew contribution of respectively. 20, - Euro (guest) or 25, - Euro (crew) per. day.

  • At the conclusion of the contract, a deposit will have to be paid corresponding to the entire period you wish to sign (eg 30 days = 30 x 25, - = 750 euro).

  • By paying a deposit, you are guaranteed a bunk in a double cabin. Upon conclusion of a crewt / guest agreement, the date and place of entry and cancellation are agreed. Date and place of both on and off patterns may be affected by weather conditions, accidents or injuries.

  • We will always try to comply with the agreed places and times, but are not responsible for any additional costs for hotel accommodation or transportation. Skipper is required to keep guests informed of any changes in time and place of entry and exit.

  • If you sign up for a trip, the deposit will only be refunded if another crew could be found for that particular trip.

  • If you choose to disembark before the agreed time, you will be refunded only if a crew could be found for the remaining period.

  • If the captain asks a crew to disembark before time, the remaining paid contribution will be repaid from the date of removal (see, however, exception in the case of hashish / drugs). The Captain is not responsible for any additional transportation costs that may arise in this regard.

  • Sailingplans can be changed by skipper if conditions require this. There is no compensation for change in navigationplans.

  • No later than 14 days before embarking, the remaining crew contribution has to be paid for the sailing period.

  • Authorities in particular charter destinations want to protect their own charter fleet so it is important to point out that sailing with the SY Azad is not hiring or charter. Legally speaking, it is a part-time boat trip and, if the authorities at the relevant location ask for your stay on board, it is important that you answer the following:  "I do not pay to sail on S / Y Azad, but we share on board expenses".

Shared contributions:

Everybody on board has to contribute equally to the Shared contributions, which covers ongoing daily expenses for port fees, food, water, diesel for the main engine, gasoline, deposit charges and cruising permits. Individual needs such as candy, soda, alcohol, food in restaurants etc. are payable on your own account.

The monthly expenses for the shared contributions vary greatly depending on the sailing area and the need for motoring, but is usually estimated between 150-400 euro/month per person according to weather and situation. There will be paid 150,-  Euro per person up front at the day of embarking and then continuously after consumption. It is the skipper who decides when to pay to the community.

Chain of Commadnd

On Azad we aim for democracy, but it is always the skipper who has the last word and the skippers orders must always be obeyed immediately and without discussion. You are so welcome to ask questions for the order at a later time.

S/Y Azad sails under Danish flag and Danish legislation.

Anchoring, Mooring in port and under sail

As Azad's crew contribution is low, we try to keep costs down. This means that we are anchoring if possible, and that we primarily go to port in connection with the refueling of diesel, water, provisioning, as well as embarking / disembarking.

The port fee is shared equally and taken from the shared contributions account, which means that the more crew there is on board the cheaper it will be for the individual.

We sail as little as possible under engine and as much as possible for sailing. The skipper decides when to run under engine and the cost of fuel is taken from the shared contributions account (the engine consumes about 3-4 lt. / hour).

Sailing route

We are sailing by the safest route at all times. Detailplanning is done from leg to leg or from day to day - as far as possible as a joint descision between the crew, but it is the owners of the ship who sovereignly decide where Azad is going to sail and when.

Security

Security comes before anything else in the following order:

1) Security of the crew.

2) Ship safety.

3) Material Safety.

Everyone has full responsibility for their own safety, then the safety of other crew members.

The guideline aboard is:

• That we, whatever always strives to avoid bad weather - even if it causes delays

• that we reef, if in doubt about the oncoming weather, and preferably before we are in doubt.

• That everybody - unless the weather is extraordinary good - always wear lifejackets when we stay outside the cockpit.

• That everybody use a lifeline in bad weather or according to the skippers order.

• That the watch at night always wear life jackets and use a lifeline.

• That the skipper is called if the watchman considers it necessary.

• That the watch keeps a proper look, controls speed and course, barometer drop, weather, etc. every quarter of an hour and keeps

   the logbook.

• The watch never goes on deck if you are alone, but always calls for a helper.

• That everyone, when they embark, are introduced to the ship's emergency procedures and safety equipment.

Embarking and disembarking

We will always try to comply with the agreements we have made with you. However, we can not always guarantee this due to weather and unforeseen circumstances. Therefore, you must be prepared to provide public transport to our position or to take a hotel room until we arrive. We will always be in touch with each other (mobile, Facebook etc.) and you will always be notified if possible.

Age

As an individual, you must be 18 years old to sign up for Azad.

Lugage

At Azad, there is limited space, which means that you should preferably carry your luggage in a regular soft sports bag as it is much easier to find space. If you show up with a large rigid suitcase, You will have to leave it behind on the dock.

Distribution of assignments

Everyone on board is responsible for ensuring that Azad is in a proper and safe condition at all times. The following tasks are distributed equally between all adults on board:

• Watches - both night and day.

• Cleaning.

• Cooking.

• Dishwashing and kitchen hygiene. When sailing this is especially important.

• Cleanup. The place is cramped and everything has its fixed place. Put things in place after use.

• Maintenance and minor repairs according to competences.

• Ship preparation (cleaning at the time of arrival, preparation (water, supply etc.) before departure.

Food on board

We are common about everything, it also means cooking - the cost of diet is taken from the shared contributions account.

Hash / narcotics

Hash / narcotics is totally prohibited, and will result in immediate disembarkment without any refund of crew contribution.

Alcohol

The skipper decides when drinking alcohol is allowed. As a starting point, it's ok to enjoy a beer, a glass of wine or the like for dinner and one for the sunset. If you have to be drunk, it must happen while we are in port and you must be sober again before we leave port.

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited on Azad both below and on deck.

Hygiene

You have to accept more limited opportunities for personal hygiene than you are used to in your everyday life. We have electric toilets and hot / cold water showers on board, but due to a limited fresh water reservoir (420 liters) showers is not normal, so the possibilities are either a floor wash or a jump in the sea.

Watchkeeping

On night sailing, watch must be kept with appropriate lookout and everyone will be involved. Normally you will be two on duty at a time. The watches are paired, so there will always be a experienced sailor on all guards.

Post and e-mail

We do not have wifi or other connection to the internet so if you want to send an email, you must provide a phonecards for that area or send / receive e-mail from local restaurants with wifi hotspots.

Insurance

It is a required that you have your own travel and accident insurance for the countries we come to while you are signed up. As you participate in a part-trip cruise, no type of accident insurance has been drawn for the participants. The ship S / Y Azad is of course both liability and casualty insurance.

Vaccinations

It is your responsibility to get the correct vaccinations for the journey you are going to sail on. If you want to investigate more about vaccinations, as well as the incidence of illness in various countries, please refer to SSI's website here:

You can be vaccinated with Danske Lægers Vaccinations Service (DLVS), which also guides in vaccinations to travelers. On their website you can also find prices here:

Note: Please note that Hepatitis A + B must be given 2-3 times, so the vaccination must commence well in advance of departure!

Other tips for the crew / guests
  • Ask and learn - In doubt, ask.

  • Limited resources: Use only the absolutely necessary light, do not let the water run when brushing your teeth and use salt water to flush the dishes before washing up, etc.

  • Turn off the main drain of the gas when you are done.

  • Avoid salt below deck. Salt sucks moisture. Swimwear / towels dry up and are dry before it gets under deck.

  • Take off your shoes when boarding.

  • Be aware of where you put your feet - walk on your forefoot.

  • Try to clean up after yourself - go for a cleanup round before going to bed after your watch.

  • Sand: Make sure that bags, clothes, shoes are emptied of sand and dirt before boarding.

  • Co-responsibility: You are co-responsible for making the most of your stay.

  • We all want to take the issues before they grow too big. In case of discrepancies on board, it is important that the air is cleaned and that we talk about things.

25/5-2016
